Evidence-based and Canadian Certified Life Care Planning

A Life Care Plan is a comprehensive report which identifies and quantifies the current and future needs of individuals with severe and complex injuries and medical conditions.  Reports are typically used in the medical legal arena for settlement purposes however are also intended to provide the injured individual and their caregivers with guidelines for future care planning and to educate the injured party to better understand their injury and prognosis to actively manage their recovery to promote the best possible outcomes.

Ms. Caissie Scoular has over 16 years of experience providing reports for both plaintiff and defense counsel and has prepared reports for a wide variety of injuries including amputations, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries and complex medical conditions in relation to medical malpractice cases.  She follows established professional methodology for report development and completion which begins with a comprehensive review of all provided documentation.  All Life Care Plans include the following:

  • Overview of injuries, symptoms and current function;
  • Detailed summary of medical and therapy history;
  • Consultation with treating therapists and physicians (when possible);
  • Research regarding available services and associated costs specific to the geographic area of the injured individual;
  • Summary of recommendations and breakdown/explanation of costing; and
  • Excel spreadsheets outlining costs.

Ms. Caissie Scoular’s reports are insightful, critical, objective, and based on post-graduate level education, research, and over 20 years’ experience in the rehabilitation field. Her expertise as a case manager provides her with a strong understanding of the scope of therapy professionals, as well as knowledge of an individuals’ typical recovery course, common barriers, and anticipated outcomes. She is a member of both the life care planning and Canada chapter of IARP, regularly completes continuing education pertaining to life care planning, and updates her knowledge through review of the Journal of Life Care Planning in addition to other sources.
